We had so much fun in Minnesota this year...AFTER we got there. This seems to be a common theme with us. We were late leaving because I couldn't find my license...had used it at the library and then misplaced it. Finally decided to leave without it and I worried about it for the first few hours. (Update: Found in our car when we got home - yes!) We had planned to get to our hotel in Lakeville at about 4:30ish on Friday so we could swim and relax but traffic on I-35 had other plans. We sat there for 2+ hours and went 10 miles or so. It was brutal. The kids were getting restless, I had to help Cade pee in a cup (he'll probably never forget it) and I had to go to the bathroom REALLY bad, but don't worry I didn't pee in a cup. I think we got to our hotel at 7 something, so swam for about an hour and then went and ate dinner at 8:30 at the hotel restaurant. The pool was fun though, they had a kiddie pool with a slide and fountains, etc so Brecken just ran around in circles for an hour...the child LOVES water. Cade enjoyed the other pool because he could show us some of his new skillz he had just learned in swimming lessons. And he loved playing basketball. The next day, travel was pretty uneventful and we are thankful for that. No tire issues this year or leaving our things on the side of the road.
Some highlights:
*Brecken calling seashells "nutpickles" and telling Grandpa Darrell she was going to catch him "ridin' dirty."
*The cool firepits...minus the mosquitoes
*Cade having a crush on "Katie," not Aunt, but an older girl who was staying there...he followed her around like a puppy dog...was pretty cute but I'm not ready for that.
*Tie-dyed tees and hooded sweatshirts from the resort shop
*The Loons
*Sleeping in (most of the time)
*Staying up late reading (started and finished a great book called "The Secret Life of Cece Wilkes"
*Eating ALL of the fish we caught
*Jim catching the biggest Smallmouth Bass of the summer at the resort
*Jim catching a large Largemouth Bass
*Cade catching fish with Trevor's help
*Brecken catching fish with Dad's help and she will tell you, "I caught a sunfish...with orange on its belly!"
*Erin catching no fish...I only went once! ; )
*Erin driving the boat...it's harder than it looks
*Morse vs. Elwood Volleyball...the Morses won! : )
*Playing at the playground
*The kid making friends with the "neighbors," the Halls and Ericksons, and walking with them to the next resort to get ice cream
*The water bongo...hours and hours of entertainment...and Jim and Andy got in trouble for jumping on it at the same time...Cade wasn't supposed to go out there but he did...got bounced off once and he was fine to just sit on it after that
*The kiddie boats...Cade even took his sister on rides
*Building sandcastles
*Cade getting "treasure" from the guy who was using his metal detector in the swimming area
*Evergreen Park
*the guy driving up and down Main St with his coffee on the back of his truck...Cade thought it was the funniest thing he had ever seen
*the Crazy Days shoe sale that Jim visited..."Bob, what's your best price?"
*Campaneros
*Ice cream at the old fashioned soda fountain at the Dorset House
*Brecken getting manis/pedis from Aunt Katie and Britany
*The Family Feud family feud
*Delicious meals all week
*Cade signing, "Toes" by the Zac Brown Band..."I've got my toes in the water, ants in my pants." I didn't feel the need to correct him! ; )
It was so sad to leave...I hate the end of vacation. It's so depressing. We are looking forward to our next trip UP NORTH!
The kids had a blast and it's not uncommon for me to hear them playing fishing and Brecken saying, "I caught a Northern!"
